Latrobe Valley air monitoring co-design
The air monitoring co-design panel has developed a more extensive EPA air monitoring network in the Latrobe Valley.
More than 30 community members participated in the co-design process, which developed a single model for the air monitoring network. Monitoring Port Phillip Bay
Baywide water quality monitoring program
EPA has been monitoring water quality in Port Phillip Bay at six sites for over 30 years. This monitoring program was expanded for the duration of the Channel Deepening Project and continued, following its completion, from 2008 to 2011.
The expanded monitoring program included monthly samples at 11 sites across the bay and a wider range of parameters was tested for, including lead, mercury, arsenic and phytoplankton species.

Closure of Hazelwood mine and power station
The Hazelwood mine and power station in the Latrobe Valley ceased operations on 31 March 2017, but EPA will have involvement at the site for many years to come. EPA currently licenses environmental discharges from the Hazelwood power station and will regulate the environmental aspects of decommissioning, remediation and water discharges from the cooling pond and site.
