Coffee roasterCase study 1 - John runs a small coffee roasting business in the suburbs; the smell of roasting coffee beans can be considered offensive to some and so John needed to control the emissions from the coffee roasting process.

John assessed that the source of odour was specifically coming from the roasting of beans and assessed the options to manage the risk. 

John decided to use an effective odour capture system as this is the most efficient way to collect odour from a defined source for treatment, he then treated the emissions with thermal oxidisers before releasing the treated air via a stack.  
 

 

 

 

 

 

Case study 2 - Susan runs a food warehouse surrounded by houses where she heats her wastePhoto of EPA officers in the field polystyrene to produce pellets which are easier to recycle.

This process causes a lot of odour and local residents have filed odour complaints with EPA.

Susan received a notice to control her odour pollution and contacted EPA.

EPA worked with Susan to determine the best solution for her business and advised her to use an effective odour capture system, then treat the emissions by running them through a carbon filter before releasing the air via a stack.
